A big thanks to all our recent fundraisers!
Established in January 2023 to honor the memory of Marcus Merritt who died
unexpectedly on December 27, 2022. Marcus was a graduate of Cathedral High
School, Boston, MA (1996) where he was an exceptional student-athlete who
excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track & field. Throughout high school,
Marcus was very active in extra-curricular activities such as the Thomas Jefferson
Forum for Community Service.
Each year, a $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to two high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA, participates in at least two high school varsity sports, one extra-
curricular activity, and have completed a minimum of 40 hours of community
service during high school. High School Seniors who are well-rounded and demonstrate a
genuine commitment to community service and paying it forward, are encouraged
to apply. The scholarship is to assist students with their college expenses.
To be considered for The Merritt Family Scholarship, applicants must be a current high school senior.
Awarding of the Scholarship is contingent on several criteria including acceptance to
and enrollment in a two or four year college/university, and a complete application.
Additionally, applicants are required to submit an essay, school transcript, proof of community service hours completed and two letters of recommendation.
The Merritt Family Scholarship is an outright grant. It is the hope that scholarship
recipients will honor the memory of Marcus Merritt by giving future students a
similar financial opportunity, as they become successful in their prospective careers.
How to Apply:
Applicants must complete ann application and submit via mail. All required
attachments, except letters of recommendation, must be forwarded at the same
time your application is submitted. DO NOT send materials separately.

Deadline to apply is March 1st.
Letters of recommendation must be sent by mail and postmarked no later than March 1st. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Your application will be reviewed by our Scholarship Committee. Selections will be based on a student’s commitment to service in the community, overall academic progress and involvement playing multiple sports. Students will be notified by email of any scholarship award or denial on or before April 15th. The grant will be paid directly to the college/university within two months of enrollment.
Application Requirements:
• Completed and signed application – mailed with required attachments by
March 1st
• Official high school transcript showing a minimum GPA 3.0.
• A brief description of planned area of study in college and future career
goals
• An essay must accompany your application. It must be typed, double spaced
using 12-point font size (no more than 500 words)
Essay Question: Please describe how you will strive to help create a
better world. This can be through a field of study or a personal commitment.
Remember! Keep a copy of your application for your records.
